I begin with a reverence for the act of making marks. I explore how forms behave in two-dimensional space, the expressive characteristics of color, especially in relationship to one another. I watch the movement of paint through the agency of hand, paintbrush, and palette knife and I wonder at the sensual experience of paint on canvas.
Through the freedom of abstraction, I strive to express a distillation of my experiences in nature, of my relationship to my various environments, of the witnessing of the dynamic, ever-changing forces in all of life, and of my emotional responses to the challenges and joys of the gift of my time here on this earth. My hope is these expressions intuitively and vividly communicate some of the mysteries and questions, the fears, and exaltations we face.
